Women's Tennis Signs Tampa Standout Jennifer Miller

DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson University Head Women's Tennis Coach Sasha Schmid is proud to announce the signing of Jennifer Miller (Tampa, Fla.) to a National Letter of Intent.  Miller, a three-time district and regional champion and a two-time state doubles champion at Chamberlain High School, will join the Hatters as a freshman in 2009-10.

Miller, who has led Chamberlain to two state finals appearances in Florida's Class 3A, is a three-time All-Hillsborough County honoree for Head Coach Mike Zanatian.  Her combined high school record is 44-1.

A strong student who is highly involved in extracurricular activities, Miller has been on the High Honor Roll throughout high school and is a member of Beta (academic honors group), Student Advisory Council, Spanish Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She has also participated in track and field and is undecided on her major at Stetson.  The 5'9” Miller is the daughter of Timothy and Pamela Miller.

“I am thrilled to announce this signing because Jen's complete tennis game and enthusiasm for Stetson University and our tennis team will make a tremendous addition to our team,” Schmid said.  “With Jen we continue our tradition of strong junior tennis players from the state of Florida joining our team.  I expect Jen to make an impact in our line-up in both singles and doubles for us next season.  I am looking forward to watching Jen compete for Stetson and excel in collegiate tennis.”

Schmid, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year, led the Hatters to a 14-11 overall record and 8-3 in A-Sun play last season.  Stetson reached the A-Sun tournament semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.  First Team All-Conference junior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay), Second Team All-Conference junior Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) and A-Sun All-Freshman team pick Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India), now a sophomore, highlight the returning cast.
