CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Stetson
women's tennis team finished the final day of competition at the College of
Charleston Invitational on Sunday in Charleston. Diana Bukajeva led the
Hatters, winning her match to secure the championship in the A2 singles draw.
Bukajeva, who was one of the three
Hatters playing for a championship, was victorious in the A2 singles draw. She
defeated Olga Kalodzitsa 6-2, 6-3 to earn the championship.
The other two Hatters competing
for a championship were unable to bring it home. Jen Miller fell to Jenny
Falcone (College of Charleston) 6-4, 6-1 and MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell lost
to Grace Baker (College of Charleston) 6-3, 6-3.
In the A1 singles draw, Sara
Lazarevic and Andrea Crespo were scheduled to play against each other, but the
match was never played. Crespo played an additional match, but fell to Brooke
McAmis (College of Charleston) 6-2, 6-3.
In the A2 singles draw, Clarke
Tatje finished in fourth after falling to Anna Ekelund (Charlotte) 6-0, 7-6
(0). Lindsey Cable secured seventh in
the draw by defeating Nisha Crouser (Davidson) 1-6, 6-3, 10-8.
In the fifth place match of the B1
singles draw, Eviline Lepinay defeated Sarah Gail Neibur (Samford) 7-5, 6-3.
In the doubles round robin, the team of Cable/Lepinay won
their match over Vanessa Ortiz and Dominique de Witt (Coastal) 8-6. Cable and
Lepinay finished 3-0 over the weekend.
The doubles team of Lazarevic/Stauffer-MacDowell defeated
Emily Mallory and AnnMarie Lyon (Samford) 8-6 to take seventh in the A1 doubles
draw.
In that same draw, Crespo and Bukajeva were defeated by
Jessica Northcutt and Lauren Caballero (Samford) 8-6, giving them fourth place.
Miller and Tatje finished in sixth place in the A2 doubles
draw after falling to Kristin Lewis and Adri Lochner 8-6.
The Hatters return to action when they travel to play in the
UCF Invitational from September 28-30.
