Winter/Spring Break Training

 

Stetson Crew has the perfect training site for your Winter/Spring Break training.   Our lake is 2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide.  Flowing through the south end of the lake is the St. John's river, rowable to Jacksonville (100miles) or Melbourne (200miles).  The river is about 3-4 8's wide make it ideal for training.  It is winding and always protected.  The water is completely fresh with no tidal action.  Current is very light as the river only drops 1 inch per mile. There is no current at all on or through the lake.

 

January weather is typically 60-70 degrees for highs and 45-55 for lows.  It rarely rains during the "winter".  Spring Break weather is usually highs in the 70-80's with lows in the 60's.

 

The best part of Spring Break training is the 2000m/4 lane course that is installed (and GPS measured) in February. We host a Sprint race the last Saturday of February. Scrimmaging between Stetson and visiting teams are normal each year.

 

Site Rental
Cost is $2.50/per athlete/per day.
At the current time, there are a limited number of shells available for rent from Stetson.

Go 1.8 miles

Veer left onto OLD New York (CR 4110) (Amtrak sign)

Go 1.8 miles (past the Amtrak station; past a convenience store)

Turn left onto Hontoon Rd & Go 1 mile

Turn left onto Alhambra Dirve

Continue STRAIGHT until road dead ends

There are only a few options for renting launches.

-          Nice 12-14 foot aluminum boats with 4-stroke 15hp or 20hp outboards, delivered to the boathouse.

3.  Stetson may have 2-3 launches (without engines) available to rent; $10/day for the hull.
