Bass and Pruitt Chosen on Second Day of MLB Draft

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson’s Justin Bass (DeLand, Fla.) and Brian Pruitt (Miami, Fla.) were each chosen in today’s Major League Baseball draft and will have the opportunity to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball.

 

Bass, a 6-1, 205 lb senior outfielder was selected in the 19th round and 568th overall by the Florida Marlins. He is coming off a season where he was named First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference. Bass finished second in the conference in batting with a .404 average. He led the A-Sun in hits with 97 and doubles with 27. He was also second in runs scored with 62. Bass can do it all with excellent speed, a strong arm, and the ability to hit for average and power.

 

Pruitt, a 6-1, 200 lb junior outfielder was selected in the 34th round and 1,021st overall by the Washington Nationals. This is the second time he has been drafted by the Nationals after being selected in the 30th round coming out of high school. Pruitt finished the 2008 season hitting .263 with nine doubles, three triples and five home runs. Pruitt is a multiple-tool player who can run, hit for power, and has a very strong arm from right field.
