Fort Myers, Fla. ? The Stetson women's golf team recorded its fourth consecutive top 10 finish to start the season and its seventh straight overall, placing fourth at the 31st annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Fort Myers on Tuesday. Junior Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) led the Hatters with a sixth place finish at +6 for 54 holes.
Stetson struggled somewhat as a team in the final round at Pelican Preserve Golf Club, slipping from third place to fourth after losing 24 strokes to par on Tuesday. Freshman Jen Gartin (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) shot the best score of the day for the Hatters with a five over par 77 and finished in 18th place at 14 over par for the tournament. Jackson and freshman Lauren Cate (Jacksonville, Fla.) each shot 78 while junior Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) recorded a 79. Sophomore Alex Banham (Birmingham, England) carded an 82. Darnell tied for 22nd at +16, Cate ended up in a tie for 28th place at 18 over par and Banham was 65th with a +34 final score. The total field consisted of 13 teams and 70 golfers.
Host FIU (+20) won the tournament by 10 strokes over Florida Southern with USF taking third at +44. The Hatters came in fourth with a +50 team score as the field was rounded out by Texas A&M Corpus Christi (+54), Florida Atlantic (+58), Middle Tennessee (+67), Ball State (+69), Kennesaw State (+70), Montana (+77), Wofford (+80), Daytona State (+80) and hometown school Florida Gulf Coast (+97).
Belen Buandia of FIU shot the low round of the day, a four under par 68, and won the individual title at -4, two strokes better than teammate Paula Hurtado. Marianne Andersson (Florida Southern) took third at -1 while USF's Gennifer Mendez (+3) and Florida Atlantic's Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn (+5) were the only other golfers in the field to best Jackson.
Stetson concludes the fall season next week by hosting the Hatter Fall Classic at Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand. The tournament, which will run concurrently with the Stetson/CFSC Invitational men's tournament, is a 54-hole event Monday-Tuesday, November 3-4.
