Greenville, N.C. - The Stetson women's golf team concluded the NCAA East Regional on Saturday in a tie for 19th place at 47 over par. Senior Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) was the low scorer for the Hatters in the third round at Ironwood Country Club, shooting three over par 75. Freshman Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) was Stetson's top finisher overall at four over par in a tie for 30th place.
Sophomore Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) shot 76 while senior Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) contributed the final counting score of the third round with a 79. Freshman Anna Hancock (Lakeland, Fla.) came in with an 81 to round out the team.
South Carolina shot even par 864 over the course of the weekend to win the NCAA East regional by two strokes over 18th-ranked Tennessee; also advancing to the NCAA Championships from this regional are third-ranked Duke (+4), fourth-ranked Auburn (+4), #15 Vanderbilt (+7), Tulane (+9), #11 Pepperdine (+13) and #19 TCU (+16).
Texas Tech and ninth-ranked Wake Forest came in at 23 over par, seven shots off the cut line for team advancement. The Hatters tied with Coastal Carolina for 19th place at 47 over par; the other two Atlantic Sun Conference squads competing this weekend, Campbell and ETSU, finished 14th and 15th respectively.
South Carolina's Katie Burnett was the NCAA East Regional individual champion, finishing six under par to win by one stroke over Auburn's Carlie Yadloczky. Texas Tech's Rosalyn Kim, who finished third at -4, claimed one of the two individual slots in the NCAA Championships with ETSU's Nina Muehl, who tied for fourth at three under par, grabbing the other spot. Erica Popson (Tennessee) tied with Muehl for fourth.
The Hatters, winners of the last two A-Sun conference titles, return three of their top five golfers (Buelow, Cate and Hancock) for next season. Stetson will host the 2011 NCAA East Regional at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
