Hatters Drop Season Opener at James Madison

Hatters Fall to Campbell in Buies Creek

Buies Creek, N.C. - The Hatters took the Camels to four sets, yet could not overcome the home team's attack Saturday in Buies Creek. Campbell improved to 8-12 overall and 3-1 in A-Sun play with the 3-1 win over Stetson (1-18, 0-4).

Offensively sophomore Kelli Carneal (Fredriksburg, Va.) and freshman Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) led the way for Stetson. Carneal finished with five kills and had no hitting errors leading to a .714 attack percentage. She also had 37 assists, seven digs and one solo block. Melville led the Hatters in kills with 13 and added 12 digs.

Sophomore Monique Russell (Phoenix, Az.) and junior Kaylee Ream (Venice, Fla.) were tops on the team in digs with 22 and 21 respectively. As a team Stetson hit .117 compared to .213 for Campbell.

After four consecutive matches on the road Stetson will now return to the Edmunds Center for a three-game home stand against Mercer (10/15, 6:00 p.m.), Kennesaw State (10/16, 3:00 p.m.) and Seattle University (10/23, 12:00 p.m.).
