Stetson Crew to Send Two Boats to Boston

DeLand, Fla. - Stetson Crew is sending its men's and women's lightweight fours to race in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston this Saturday, October 23.   The race is considered one of the most challenging races in the world.  It is a 5,000 meter race on the Charles which runs through Harvard University.

The men's team consists of Coxswain Christine Versace, Garry Marra, Bill Brady, Mike Sigrist, and Josh Menna. The women's team is Coxswain Kerry Burke, Caitlin Burke, Jacqueline Horbert, Christina Kapista, and Caitlin Mooney.

"Historically Stetson has rowed at the Charles in the past.  So we are following tradition and a tradition that I hope can continue," said Coach Susan Saint Sing.   "It is always a good thing when we can tie educational aspects of travel to our racing.  We are, after all, intercollegiate athletes-and what better place than Harvard, where rowing began.   It is one of the premier college institutions in America, and I am thrilled that our team is going.   Our women's four, which won a bronze medal at last year's nationals, stands the best chance of advancing time wise on the course.  The men's four will have its hands full with dozens of nationally ranked U.S. and international crews in front of them."

The Head of the Charles Regatta will host 8,000 competitors from several different nations.  Stetson Crew will be taking advantage of this year's trip to learn the rigors of the course and hopefully guarantee a slot for them in next year's race.
