DeLand, Fla. - Stetson sophomore Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) picked up her second consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week award, the conference office announced Wednesday. De los Santos enjoyed another perfect week, going 3-0 in singles and doubles without losing a single game in a pair of A-Sun wins.
De los Santos teamed with senior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) for three doubles victories over the top pairs from Chattanooga, Lipscomb and Belmont to run the duo's record to 14-1 on the season. Playing at the top of the Stetson singles lineup, De los Santos defeated Chattanooga's Jenna Nurik 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday before reeling off flawless 6-0, 6-0 wins over Lipscomb's Elizabeth Keevil on Thursday and Belmont's Abby Leatherwood on Saturday.
The sterling play of the 2010 A-Sun Freshman of the Year allowed Stetson to run its overall record to 15-1 and 6-1 in A-Sun action. The Hatters are just three wins shy of their Division I-era season wins record which they tied last year. Stetson travels to A-Sun powerhouse ETSU for a 12:30 pm match this Saturday in the opener of a four-match road swing that will take the Hatters to defending A-Sun champion UNF, Jacksonville and nationally 38th-ranked USF before their regular season home finale April 9 against UCF.
