DeLand, Fla. - On Wednesday the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I
All-American baseball teams were announced by Collegiate
Baseball newspaper and Stetson's Nick Rickles and Kurt Schluter earned third
team honors.
Rickles
has led the Hatters to one of their best seasons in the history of the program.
He was voted First Team All-Conference and is the team leader in batting
average (.353), hits (82), doubles (20), and home runs (12), and is second in
RBI (60). Rickles is one of 13 players in the nation still eligible for the
Johnny Bech Award, and made the final 60-man watch list for the prestigious
Golden Spikes Award. toughest players to strike out in NCAA Division I baseball
with just eight K's in 232 at bats this season.
Atlantic
Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference Kurt Schluter
has one of the longest current win streaks in the nation with nine consecutive
victories dating back to last season. Although he has missed five starts he is
still tied for the league lead in wins with eight and leads the league in ERA
at 1.40. He was on pace for a record-breaking season before going down with a
season-ending injury over five weeks ago.
Stetson
is set to take on North Carolina State tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the opening game of
the Columbia, South Carolina Regional.
