DeLand, Fla. - Sam Ryder, a rising senior on the Stetson men's golf team, has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the 2010-11 season by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the organization announced this week. Ryder is one of only 138 golfers across NCAA Division I to be so honored.
A Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honoree who tied for sixth at the 2011 A-Sun Championships, Ryder led the Hatters with a 72.4 stroke average on the year and 18 out of 30 rounds at even par or better. He claimed victory at the Mission Inn Spring Fling Intercollegiate (March 9-11, Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) with rounds of 72-70-70 and racked up three other top five finishes as a junior. In addition, Ryder set a school record with a seven under par 65 in the second round of the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate (March 7, Myrtle Beach, S.C.).
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
