DeLand, Fla. - Stetson senior midfielder Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) was named the first Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week Award winner for the 2011 season, the conference office announced Monday. Hermosa scored two goals in Friday's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over FIU, including the game-winner with just 1:37 left in regulation.
This award is the first of Hermosa's career and the first for a Hatter since Tessa Gavilsky '11 claimed the October 4, 2010 prize. Hermosa, a Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team selection, entered the 2011 season with four career goals and increased that total by 50 percent in less than half an hour, drilling a penalty kick in the 65th minute and the game-winning strike in the 89th as Stetson rallied to defeat the Panthers. She added a team co-leading two shots in Sunday's 2-0 setback at Florida Atlantic.
UNF midfielder Megan Dorsey claimed the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award. Hermosa and the Hatters will be back in action Saturday in nearby Daytona Beach at Embry-Riddle. The match kicks off at 6:00 pm; live stats will be available at GoHatters.com.
