DeLand, Fla. - Two road victories in a four-day span for the Stetson women's basketball team (8-3) resulted in a clean sweep of the Atlantic Sun Conference weekly awards on Tuesday as junior guards Victoria McGowan (Inkster, Mich.) and Shanasa Sanders (Jacksonville, Fla.) were named Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively. McGowan, who won for the third time in the last four weeks, tied the Stetson season and career record for such honors while Sanders won for the second time in the last three weeks.

McGowan led the Hatters to road wins over Georgia Southern and Bethune-Cookman in her usual do-it-all fashion, averaging 23 points, eight rebounds and 5.5 assists on the 2-0 week. She used perfect 6-6 free throw shooting to notch 19 points and seven rebounds in Thursday's 61-51 win at GSU before nearly picking up her second triple-double in the last three games Sunday at Volusia County rival B-CU. McGowan, who was also named A-Sun Player of the Week on Monday by CollegeSportsMadness.com, put up a career-high 27 points with nine rebounds and nine assists on 6-7 three-point shooting and 9-13 overall field goal shooting in the 82-64 road win over the Lady Wildcats.

With three A-Sun Player of the Week recognitions in the past four weeks, McGowan ties Hatter greats Kristy Brown '05, Kaisa Tuure '01 and Lamilia Ford '96 for the most such awards by a Stetson women's basketball player. Only McGowan and Tuure have won three times in the same season.

Sanders averaged 17 points per game in Stetson's two road wins last week. She shot 50 percent from the floor in both contests, collecting 14 points and four assists at GSU and using a perfect 10-10 effort at the foul line to notch 20 points and three assists in the victory at B-CU. This is her second time collecting the Newcomer honor in the last three weeks; instituted just last season, Sanders ties McGowan, who won it twice in 2011, in this category.

At 8-3 on the year, the Hatters are off to their best start since 2000-01. Stetson returns to A-Sun action and to the Edmunds Center with a 1:00 pm tip-off this Saturday, December 17 against USC Upstate. Live Stats and Hatter Vision with Bill Topping and Dee Romine will be available as usual at GoHatters.com, the official online home of Stetson Athletics.
