The Stetson men’s basketball team is not interested in moral victories at this point in the season.

Actual notches in the win column, especially at home, are much more important if the Hatters are to reach one of their primary goals for the season – earning a spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in March.

After a pair of tough losses on their recent road trip to Nashville, including a heart-breaking 104-103 overtime loss at Lipscomb, the Hatters return to the Edmunds Center tonight to face Florida Gulf Coast. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The game will be televised regionally by Comcast-Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and will be available throughout the world on the internet via ESPN3.com and HatterVision. Matt Stewart and Sonny Smith will handle the call for CSS and ESPN3.com while Murray Miller and Harry Arnold will have the call on HatterVision.

The HatterVision broadcast will be available free of charge and will include coverage of the halftime presentation of the new Stetson Athletics mascot.

For Stetson (7-11, 4-4) and Florida Gulf Coast (8-10, 4-4) tonight’s game provides an opportunity to finish the first half of the A-Sun season with a winning record and momentum heading into the second half of the year.

Both teams are coming off the always tough trip to Nashville last weekend. The Hatters dropped a 13-point decision at Belmont in addition to the overtime loss to Lipscomb. FGCU fared better against the Bison, winning 84-80 in overtime, but not against Belmont, which handed the Eagles a 42-point loss, their worst of the year.

Stetson has increasingly turned to junior center Adam Pegg in conference play. The Clearwater native is averaging 16.0 points per game in league play and is coming off a career-best 28-point, 14-rebound performance. He averaged 24.0 points during the two games in Nashville.

FGCU has been led in league play by a pair of guards, junior Sherwood Brown (12.5 ppg) and freshman Bernard Thompson (12.4). The Eagles have picked up two of their four league victories away from Alico Arena in Fort Myers, but those are their only road wins, in 10 games, this year.

The series between Stetson and FGCU is tied at four wins apiece, with both teams holding a 3-1 record on their home floor. The teams played a pair of close games last year, with the Eagles winning both.

FGCU won in DeLand for the first time in a 111-103 triple overtime thriller last January and then took a 64-60 decision in the rematch a month later in Fort Myers.
