DeLand, Fla. - Stetson sophomore Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia) used an undefeated week in both singles and doubles to claim her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week award on Wednesday. She is the second Hatter to win in the last three weeks, joining fellow sophomore Lindsey Cable (Gainesville, Fla.).
Bukajeva won all three of her singles matches this week on Court 4 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in straight sets as the Hatters (8-1) defeated Youngstown State, A-Sun rival Mercer and Big East foe Cincinnati. On Wednesday, she beat YSU's Gimena Puppo in perfect 6-0, 6-0 fashion before identical 6-1, 6-2 wins over Mercer's Amanda Bertani on Saturday and Cincinnati's Sierra Sullivan (a former Stetson Hatter) on Monday.
In doubles, Bukajeva and Court 2 partner Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) went unbeaten with a combined 24-5 aggregate score on the week, including a perfect 8-0 win over Bertani and Melanie Schumilas of Mercer on Saturday.
Stetson, which is undefeated in the month of March with three straight shutouts, travels to ETSU and USC Upstate for a pair of A-Sun matches this weekend. Friday's match in Johnson City, Tenn. begins at 1:30 pm.
