Hatters Race Against Tough Field in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Stetson men's and women's cross country team competed in the UF Mountain Dew Invitational Saturday morning, with the men finishing in 17th and the women in 18th.

The host school Florida finished in first place on the men's side, while conference opponents North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, and Northern Kentucky finished in second, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Andrew Epifanio was the first Hatter to cross the finish line, finishing in 120th with a time of 28:47.83. Kyle Burton was next to complete the race, finishing with a time of 29:12.25 (129th). Jeremy Butler was the third Hatter to cross the finish line, finishing the race in 29:48.67 (139th).

Andrew Townes and Cody Malloy finished the race almost simultaneously in 152nd and 153rd, with finishing times of 30:39.65 and 30:39.71, respectively. Ryan Hodgins came in 160th with a time of 31:33.42. Angelo Parkinson finished in 165th with a time 32:25.21. Brian Dughi followed him immediately in the standings with a time of 32:31.56.

Townes, Hodgins, and Parkinson all set personal records in this race.

Like the men's side, the host school Florida came in first place for the women. Conference opponents North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast finished in second and fifth, respectively, which was the same position as the men. Northern Kentucky dropped to seventh in the women's race.

The top runner for the Hatters on the day was Trixi Menge, who finished in 95th with a time of 20:53.08. Fellow freshmen Adrienne DeVita was next to finish, coming in 107th with a time of 21:10.63.

Jessica Cosgrove crossed the finish line in 124th, giving her a time of 21:54.70, a personal best. Senior Alyssa Thompson was the next Hatter to finish the race, coming in 128th with a time of 22:08.79.

The final three Hatters to finish the race were Christine Iseley, Emmie Wenzell, and Constance Compton; Iseley finished in 137th (22:48.48), Wenzell in 139th (22:55.15), and Compton in 146th (23:46.20).

The next race for Stetson will be one week from today, when they travel to Daytona Beach to compete in the Asics Embry-Riddle Classic. That race is slated to begin at 8 am.
