WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Stetson women's tennis team finished day one of play at the Wake Forest
Invitational Friday night in Winston-Salem.
In the A
Singles draw, Sara Lazarevic fell to Antonia Kolovou of ETSU 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Lazarevic will play Brites Moniz-Soares (Davidson) Saturday morning. Andrea
Crespo also lost her match in the A singles draw, falling to Karolina Chernaya
(Campbell) 6-4, 6-4. Crespo will face Emani Decquir of Navy in the next round.
In the B
singles draw, Diana Bukajeva defeated Lisa Grossellius (UNCC) 6-2, 6-3 and will
play Emily Gitman (Richmond) in her next match. Lindsey Cable was victorious in
the D singles draw, defeating Anna Abadias (Richmond) 7-5, 7-6 (3) and will
face Natasha Afridi of Campbell on Saturday.
Jen Miller
picked up a win in the E singles draw, defeating Noelle Kaufman (Navy) 6-2, 6-1
and will face off against Viviana Stavreva of Elon in the next round. In the F
singles draw, MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell defeated Mackenzie Lasure
(Appalachian State) 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) and will play Mikaela Carlson (Navy) on
Saturday. Rachel Luke fell to Jamie Grinberg (UNCC) 6-3, 6-2 and will face off
against Cassie Fisbeck (Navy) in her next match.
In
doubles, the Hatters picked up four wins on Friday. In the A singles draw,
Bukajeva and Crespo defeated Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer of Davidson 8-5,
but fell to Bryn Khoury and Barbora Lazarova of Elon in their second match,
8-4. Bukajeva and Crespo will take on Hailey Barrett and Ikttesh Chahal (WVU)
in the fifth place bracket.
In the B
singles draw, the duo of Miller and Lazarevic won both their matches on Friday.
They began with a win over Nisha Crouser and Elise Held (Davidson) 8-6, and
followed by defeating Caitlin Cridland and Ekin Gunaysu (Winthrop) 8-3. Their next
match will be on Saturday, when they play Alexandra Zinn and Natsuko Takayanagi
(UNCC).
In the C
singles draw, Cable and Stauffer-MacDowell won their only match, defeating
Vivian Tsui and Irina Toidze (WVU) 8-1. Their next match will be Saturday
against Stavreva and Briana Berne (Elon).
