MACON, Ga. - The Stetson men's soccer team (2-5-0, 1-1-0) recorded its first Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Sunday, falling on the road to Mercer (8-3-1, 3-0-0) by a score of 1-0.  The Bears were ranked seventh in the most recent NSCAA South Region poll.

"Well deserved credit has to go to Coach Russo and his team," Stetson head coach T. Logan Fleck said following the game.  "They played with great intensity."

Stetson wasn't able to score for the fourth time this year as Mercer goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh tallied his sixth shutout of the season.  The Hatters were extremely offensive in the loss, forcing Ranjitsingh to make a season high 10 saves.

"We played well enough to win or at the very least tie," Fleck continued.  "However, you must finish your chances if you wish to come home with points."

The Bears' sixth straight win came thanks to Josh Shutter's score in the 26th minute of play.  A corner kick found the head of a Mercer player, but the first attempt at goal was saved.  The rebounded shot was then put away by Shutter, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead they did not relinquish for the rest of the contest.

"We cannot get lazy or sloppy when marking on corner kicks or free kicks," Fleck said.  "If anything we must focus at a higher level and be mentally committed to no goals being scored against us in those situations."

The Hatters had more opportunities than Mercer throughout the match, outshooting the Bears 11-6 in the first half and 6-3 in the second.  Unfortunately, MU totaled eight corner kicks to Stetson's four, and the Bears' goal came off of one of those corners.

Junior Evan Jimmo recorded four shots, while junior Raffaele Centofanti added three.  Goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl made two saves in the loss.

Stetson will next play at UCF on Wednesday, October 10.  The Hatters and the Knights are scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Orlando.

"We will work hard in training on the aspects we need to prior to playing UCF," Fleck concluded.
