The Stetson men's soccer
team continues Atlantic Sun Conference action this weekend with a pair of road
contests at Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
The Hatters will square off with the Bisons on Friday, October 19 at
8:00 p.m., and then challenge the Norse on Sunday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m.
Lipscomb welcomes Stetson
to Nashville with an overall record of 4-9-0 and an A-Sun mark equal to the
Hatters at 1-2-0. The Bisons have lost
five of their last seven contests, including last Saturday's 3-0 home loss to
ETSU. Ethan Summers leads Lipscomb with
three goals and two assists for eight points on the season, but five Bisons in
all have scored at least two goals in 2012.
Northern Kentucky will
host ETSU on Friday before welcoming Stetson to town on Sunday. The Norse are riding a hot streak, winning
three straight matches and not recording a loss since a 1-0 defeat on the road
at Bradley on September 29. NKU comes
into the weekend 5-7-1 overall and an undefeated 2-0-1 in A-Sun play. Craig Heard, one of five Norse with two goals
on the season, was named A-Sun Player of the Week on Monday. A.J. Fleak, this Monday's A-Sun Defensive
Player of the Week, has two shutouts on the season.
The Hatters hold a
commanding 7-1-1 advantage in the all-time series with Lipscomb, which dates
back to 2003 when Stetson defeated the Bisons 2-0 in Nashville. Last season the Hatters defeated Lipscomb by
a score of 3-1 in DeLand. Sunday will
mark the first ever contest between Stetson and Northern Kentucky as the Norse enjoy
their first season of A-Sun and Division I play.
Stetson, now 1-2-0 in the
A-Sun standings, sits in a tie for sixth with five league contests
remaining. After this weekend the
Hatters finish out A-Sun action with home games against North Florida and ETSU,
and a road tilt at Florida Gulf Coast.
As always, fans can
follow @StetsonMSoccer on Twitter for in-game updates this weekend. Live Stats will be available at
LipscombSports.com and NKUNorse.com for Friday's and Sunday's matches,
respectively. Both games will be
streamed live on ASun.TV.
New this week for Stetson
fans is the introduction of "Hat-Alerts." The Stetson University
Department of Athletics has teamed up with TextCaster to launch a new text
messaging communications service for its fans.
A new way for fans to get
immediate updates on their favorite Hatter teams, Hat-Alerts is a free service
that sends text messages right to people's cell phones. Hat-Alerts will broadcast score updates,
athletics news, ticket information, promotions, and even weather delays.
For soccer fans,
subscribers can choose either "scores" (scores sent at halftime and
final), and/or "news" (previews, recaps, and other soccer news).
