Men's Tennis Adds Egor Panyushkin to Highly Regarded Incoming Class

Hatters Complete Qualifying Round

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team finished the qualifying round at the ITA Southeast regional in Tallahassee on Thursday.

Freshman Simon Julin (Stockholm, Sweden) started his day with two victories. He first defeated Collin Brown of Florida Gulf Coast 6-1, 6-1 and followed that with a win over Joao Gauer of Florida State, defeating him 7-6 (1), 7-5 in the qualifying final.

Julin will move into the main draw, where he will play against Victor Mauz of Miami at 10:30. The winner of that match will play against the winner of Van Overbeek of Florida and Dean Tsamas of FGCU Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Overbeek is the number one overall seed in the tournament.

Freshman Egor Panyushkin (Moscow, Russia) got off to a strong start, defeating Michael Beiler (FGCU) 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. In his second round match, Panyushkin fell 4-6, 7-5, 2-1. He was forced to retire in the third set.

Junior Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) fell in his match, losing to Sean Bacha of FAU by a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Freshman Laurynas Antropikas (Palanga, Lithuania) gave Robbie Dubuque of FAU a tough match, but ultimately fell in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
