The Stetson men's soccer team concludes the Atlantic Sun Conference portion of its regular season on Wednesday, playing at Florida Gulf Coast at 7:00 pm. The Eagles have clinched a spot in the upcoming A-Sun Tournament already, but the Hatters are looking to secure a spot in the field in this final contest of league play.

Currently Mercer, ETSU, and FGCU have clinched spots in the A-Sun Tournament. Northern Kentucky, which is ineligible for postseason play, is in fourth place with 10 points. USC Upstate has nine, while Lipscomb and Stetson are tied for the fifth and sixth spots with seven points. Jacksonville and UNF are currently outside looking in with six points and three points, respectively.

A win against FGCU would put Stetson in the tournament with 10 points, but the Hatters could also advance with a tie or even a loss. Jacksonville plays UNF and Lipscomb plays NKU to end the season, and both outcomes will factor into SU's postseason fate. If Stetson and Lipscomb remain tied after this week, the tie-breakers go as follows;

  1. Head-to-Head (Stetson and Lipscomb tied earlier this season)
  2. Goal differential vs. each other (tied again)
  3. Goal differential vs. A-Sun opponents (both at -3)
  4. Goals scored vs. A-Sun opponents (Lipscomb leads 8 to 6)

Defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions, Florida Gulf Coast welcomes Stetson to town sporting a record of 7-5-2 and is currently in third in the conference with a league mark of 4-1-1. The Eagles have won four straight matches, including this past Friday's 1-0 victory over ETSU. FGCU's last loss came in a 3-1 defeat at Lipscomb on Oct. 6. Felipe DeSousa leads the Eagles with six goals and one assist for 13 points on the season, while William Morse and Henry Penagos have each tallied three goals in 2012. Nathan Ingham is the goalkeeper for FGCU, and has recorded five shutouts on the year.

Stetson holds a slight 3-2-0 advantage over FGCU in the all-time series, which dates back to 2007 when the Hatters won 2-1 in DeLand. SU won the first three matches between the two teams before Florida Gulf Coast took the most recent two, including last season's 3-1 victory in DeLand.
