The
Stetson men's and women's soccer teams were honored by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Thursday, earning the annual Team
Academic Award for posting a grade point average above 3.0 over the course of
the 2011-12 academic year.
Of
the 717 college soccer teams honored, 220 were men's and 497 were women's. Stetson was one of only 148 institutions that
had both their men's and women's programs recognized for outstanding academic
achievement.
The
Hatters were joined by Atlantic Sun Conference competitors ETSU, USC Upstate,
Mercer, and Jacksonville on both the men's and women's sides. The Kennesaw State, North Florida, Northern
Kentucky, and Florida Gulf Coast women were also honored.
This
marks the third consecutive year that both the Stetson men's and women's teams
have earned the accolades from the NSCAA, continuing a strong tradition of
success in the classroom by T. Logan Fleck's and Julie Orlowski's programs,
respectively. It is the fourth straight
time the women have been honored.
"I am
very proud of having our team listed on the NSCAA Academic list again, as it is
a goal for our men's soccer program every year here at Stetson University,"
Fleck said. "I'm very proud of our
scholar-athletes for their representation of our sport and our university!"
