After earning wins in all four of Stetson's victories this past weekend, junior Meredith Owen (Jackson, Miss.) has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Owen went 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA to lead Stetson to an undefeated weekend at the Hatter Classic. She pitched a five-hit shutout over Dartmouth on Friday afternoon, then returned for 4.0 innings of relief Friday night against Bethune-Cookman. Owen worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out situation against the Wildcats in the bottom of the sixth without allowing the tying run to score.
On Saturday, Owen tossed a two-hit shutout over Florida A&M, and once again returned for 3.2 innings of relief against Bethune-Cookman.
For the week she allowed just two runs in 19.2 innings while striking out 13. She walked just one batter and did not allow any extra base hits while holding opponents to a .192 batting average.
Owen also had a strong week at the plate, batting .467 with one home run and three RBI. She was named to the Hatter Classic all-tournament team.
This season Owen is 6-1 in the circle with a 1.11 ERA. She is tied for the league-lead in wins and ranks sixth among conference pitchers in ERA.
It is Owen's first career Pitcher of the Week selection and the first Stetson pitcher honored with the league's weekly award since Amanda Lindsey was selected three times in 2010.
The Hatters will host UCF in the Strikeout Cancer game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
