The Stetson Softball team will host its second annual Strikeout Cancer game on Wednesday evening as the Hatters host the UCF Knights at 6 p.m. at Patricia Wilson Field.

Stetson will raise awareness for the fight against cancer by wearing pink uniforms and accepting donations that will go to the American Cancer Society. Special video tributes will also be played on the message board throughout the game.

"This game is different than any other games because it has a very important purpose," sophomore Courtney Brandt said. "We fight for those who have passed away, who work with cancer, or who have fought against cancer."

Unfortunately, Brandt's family has been affected by cancer on two separate occasions. Her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer during Courtney's junior year of high school, and her younger sister was diagnosed with brain cancer two weeks before Courtney left for Stetson her freshman year.

Both her mom and her sister are now cancer survivors.

"You really won't understand what it is like having a family member with cancer unless it happens to you or your family," Brandt said. "I could never imagine going through everything they went through and are still going through. I play for them, and they deserve it."

Courtney's sister Taylor will be throwing out one of the ceremonial first pitches before the game.

The Hatters (6-5) enter Wednesday's game riding a five-game winning streak, including a 4-0 mark in last weekend's Hatter Classic.

UCF comes into the game with an overall record of 9-7 after going 4-1 last weekend at the NFCA Lead-off Classic in Clearwater.

The teams will be meeting at Patricia Wilson field for the first time since 2009, a 4-3 UCF victory in a regionally televised game on the Bright House Sports Network. Wednesday's game can be seen live and free on HatterVision with Jeff Sharon calling the action. Live stats will also be available on

Stetson will also host Niagara in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
