The Stetson tennis teams are set to begin conference
competition this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders on Thursday and
Saturday. The teams will open with
Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Northern Kentucky on Thursday and will then
host Lipscomb on Saturday.
For the women, Stetson enters with a 5-4 record, winning its
last two matches against Cal State Northridge and Cleveland State. Northern
Kentucky is 0-6, and the Norse will be looking for their first win when they
come to DeLand. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at the Mandy Stoll
Tennis Center.
On the men's side, the Hatters enter Thursday's contest with
a perfect 8-0 record, the last of which was a 7-0 sweep of Cleveland State. The
Norse are 2-7 on the season, recently coming off a 4-3 loss to Bethune-Cookman.
Thursday's men's match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m., or as soon as the women
finish.
"We are looking forward to our first ever matches against
NKU," Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said of the conference opener. "I
believe both the men's and women's teams will give us a great battle."
Saturday will feature the men and women against the Lipscomb
Bisons. The women's team currently holds a 4-5 record, and will face Florida
Gulf Coast before the match against the Hatters. Stetson defeated Lipscomb last
season by a score of 5-2. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Lipscomb's men's tennis team is currently 3-6 in 2013. Like
the women, the Stetson men's tennis team defeated Lipscomb by a score of 5-2
last season. The Hatters' match with the Bisons is scheduled to start 10:00
a.m. on Saturday.
"We always look forward to our battle versus Lipscomb,"
Pilote said. "They are always well coached and will surely give us all that we
can handle."
