The Stetson softball team opens a crucial eight-game home stand this weekend as the Hatters host the Kennesaw State Owls in a three-game series at Patricia Wilson Field.
The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday. All three games will be available on HatterVision and ASun.TV.
Stetson (22-16, 5-9 A-Sun) is coming off a big doubleheader sweep at Jacksonville on Wednesday as the Hatters won by scores of 5-1 and 3-1. Courtney Brandt picked up the win in the circle in game one as she struck out five and allowed just four hits and one run. Meredith Owen was victorious in game two, scattering three hits while tying her career-high with 11 strikeouts.
Brandt and Owen combined to hold Jacksonville to just 2-for-24 with runners on base.
Offensively, Morgan Hatch drove in three runs in the doubleheader with a pinch-hit double and a solo home run, and Demi Meza hit two doubles in game one and drove in a pair.
Defensively, the Hatters have committed just one error in the last three games.
"The quality of play has been good lately," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said after the games Wednesday. "I was real happy with Morgan, she has had two home runs and a double in her last five at-bats."
The Hatters enter the series three games behind Kennesaw State (26-14, 10-8 A-Sun) in the conference standings, but with four games at hand. The Owls are coming off a 2-1 series win at home over Florida Gulf Coast this past Tuesday and Wednesday. KSU ranks third in the league in both pitching (2.34 ERA) and defense (.967 fielding pct.).
Kennesaw State won three of the four head-to-head meetings last year, including both regular season games in DeLand. The Owls lead the all-time series 9-8.
Tickets are $6 for reserved seats and $5 for general admission. Fans can also follow the game with live stats from GoHatters.com, the Stetson Softball twitter feed, and with the Hat-Alerts text messaging system.
