Stetson University junior pitcher Meredith Owen and freshman catcher Jessica Griffin were named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, by the league office on Monday.
The duo led the Hatters (24-17, 7-10 A-Sun) to a 4-1 week and helped keep the team's chances alive for a spot in the conference tournament.
In the circle, Owen went 3-0 on the week with a 1.05 ERA, holding opponents to just a .164 batting average. She pitched three complete games including a five-hit shutout over Kennesaw State on Saturday. She also worked all eight innings in Stetson's 3-1 extra-inning win at Jacksonville on Wednesday, striking out a season-high 11 batters.
On Sunday, Owen picked up the win in Stetson's 4-2 series clinching victory over Kennesaw State. She struck out six and retired the final 11 consecutive batters she faced.
Griffin, meanwhile, batted .538 (7-for-13) for the week and collected hits and scored runs in all five games. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI single against Jacksonville in game one Wednesday, and she had a key two-out RBI single in Stetson's 4-2 win vs. Kennesaw on Sunday.
It is Owen's second Pitcher of the Week award this season, and the first Player of the Week selection for Griffin. Griffin is also the first A-Sun freshman to earn the award this year and the first Hatter freshman selected since Mariah Cobb in 1999.
Stetson will host UNF is a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
