The Stetson women’s tennis team will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. this weekend for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. The Hatters (10-9, 5-3) enter the tournament as the number four seed, and will play number five seed Florida Gulf Coast (11-7, 4-4) in the First Round on Friday.
UPDATE: Due to impending weather, Friday's match between Stetson and FGCU will take place at the Bristol Country Club in Bristol, Tenn. The Hatters and the Eagles will square off at 9:00 a.m. There will be no live stats for Friday's contest.
The Eagles were Stetson’s last opponent of the regular season. The Hatters came out victorious by a score of 5-2 on Saturday, April 13 to secure the four seed in this weekend’s championships. Stetson won the doubles points before earning four singles victories en route to the 5-2 win.
If Stetson advances on Friday, the team would move on to play top seeded ETSU in the semifinals, Saturday at 9:00 a.m. In the regular season meeting between the Hatters and the Bucs, ETSU (13-5, 8-0) won by a score of 7-0 back on March 28.
Last year Stetson lost in the semifinals to eventual champion North Florida. The Hatters will attempt to win its fourth ever A-Sun Championship this weekend. The last time Stetson came away victorious was in 1989.
“Our team is well prepared for the championship,” Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. “We finally played with our full line-up healthy last Saturday. We were all looking forward to playing at full strength all season, and I know our team wants to give it their all for our seniors.”
