The Stetson men’s tennis team is set to compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament this weekend in Johnson City, Tenn.  The third seeded Hatters (15-3, 6-2) will take on sixth seed Lipscomb (8-11, 3-5) Friday.

UPDATE: Due to impending weather, Friday's match between Stetson and Lipscomb will take place at the Bristol Country Club in Bristol, Tenn.  The Hatters and the Bisons will square off at 12:30 p.m. or one hour after the Stetson women's match, which begins at 9:00 a.m.  There will be no live stats for Friday's contest.

Stetson clinched the three seed in this weekend’s tournament by defeating Florida Gulf Coast this past Saturday by a score of 4-3.  The Hatters’ 6-2 conference record was blemished only by losses to the top two seeds, No. 1 North Florida, and No. 2 ETSU.

If the Hatters top the Bisons on Friday, they will move on to the semifinals and play the host Buccaneers on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.  In the regular season meeting between Stetson and ETSU, the Hatters fell by a score of 4-3 back on March 28.

Last season Stetson fell to eventual runner-up North Florida in the semifinals.  It marked the first time since 2005 that the Hatters failed to reach the A-Sun Title match.  While the Hatters have reached the finals six times (2006-11), Stetson has never won the A-Sun Championship.

“This is the first conference championship for half of our team,” Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said. “This will be a great experience for the newcomers.  The threat of rain on Friday may bring indoor play to the table, which might make our first round even more challenging. I know that our team wants to give it their all for our captain, senior Didrik Berg.”
