MACON, Ga. – Five members of the Stetson women’s tennis team were honored by that Atlantic Sun Conference with postseason accolades for their performances this spring, as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Seniors Sara Lazarevic (Calgary, Alta.) and Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.), junior Diana Bukajeva (Riga, Latvia), and freshmen Andrea Crespo (Valencia, Spain) and Eveline Lepinay (Quebec City, Quebec) all earned honors prior to this weekend’s A-Sun Championships in Johnson City.

In just her first season, Crespo was named to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team after competing at number one singles for the Hatters all year long.  She went 11-6 in singles play all season, but finished conference action 6-1 to help lead Stetson to the four seed.  Crespo was also named to the All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team.

Bukajeva was honored three times by the league on Thursday.  The junior was named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team as a singles player and as a doubles player, and she was a unanimous selection to the Academic All-Conference Team for her performance on and off the court. A business administration major, Bukajeva currently holds a 3.81 cumulative GPA.

The Latvia native held the Hatters’ best record in singles play, at 16-2 overall, which resulted in a pair of A-Sun Player of the Week honors.  Joined by Miller as a doubles team for most of the season, the two were honored as one of four pairs on the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team.  Bukajeva and Miller went 9-5 overall, and were an astounding 7-1 together in league action.

Lazarevic joined Bukajeva as an All-Atlantic Sun Second Team honoree for her play at number two singles this season.  The senior finished the year 8-3 from the number two spot, and was 5-3 in A-Sun play.

Joining Crespo on the All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team was Lepinay.  The first year Hatter was a unanimous selection for the squad after finishing the season 10-6.  Lepinay played mostly at the number five and six positions in singles action.

The Stetson women’s tennis team opens this weekend’s championships as the four seed against fifth seeded Florida Gulf Coast.  The match is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday in Johnson City.
