MACON, Ga. – Stetson University freshman first baseman Patrick Mazeika had multiple hits in all three games over the weekend as the Hatters took two of three from East Tennessee State to earn Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors.

Mazeika is the first Stetson baseball player to earn the weekly honor from the A-Sun this year.

A native of Wilbraham, Mass., Mazeika entered play last week with the nation’s longest active hitting streak at 21 games. That streak ended in a loss to South Florida on Tuesday, but Mazeika came back with a strong performance over the weekend.

Mazeika had two hits in each of the three games against the Bucs to raise his season batting average to .405, which is .024 points higher than the second best hitter in the A-Sun this year. Mazeika also leads the league in on-base percentage (.505) and is ninth in slugging (.506). He is second in the league in hits (64) and seventh in total bases (80).

In Saturday’s 7-3 victory over ETSU Mazeika had a double among his two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs. In Sunday’s 2-0 victory he had an RBI triple in the first inning and scored the second run.

Mazeika has hit safely in all 15 A-Sun games for the Hatters this year and has a .483 batting average against league competition. He has had multiple hits in 10 of the last 12 games for the Hatters.

Stetson will return to action in league play this weekend when the Hatters travel to Nashville to face Lipscomb in a three-game series. The first game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Friday.
