Fourteen home matches and away tournaments at Wyoming and Southeastern Louisiana highlight the 2013 Stetson Volleyball schedule, which was released on Tuesday.

"I really like our schedule this fall, with numerous challenging non-conference opponents that we don't typically face," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "It should prepare us well for A-Sun competition, and it is great that we get to start conference play at home this year.”

The Hatters will open the season the weekend of Aug. 30-31 at the University of Wyoming UniWyo Invite in Laramie, Wyo. Stetson will face Drake, Montana State, Idaho, as well as the host school, Wyoming.

The Hats return home Sept. 6-7 to host the annual Stetson Westin Classic at the Edmunds Center. The two-day event will feature Bethune-Cookman, Providence, Savannah State, and Stetson.

The Hatters will then travel to Hammond, La. to compete at the Lion Classic Sept. 13-14. Stetson will oppose Southern University, Southeastern Louisiana, Nebraska-Omaha, and Louisiana Tech.

“We have two long trips to tournaments early in the season, at Wyoming and Southeastern Louisiana,” Loesch said. “We will face diverse competition on the road which will prepare us well for the rigors of conference play.

“Between those two trips, it will be great to host a home tournament and get to play in front of our crowd at the Edmunds Center,” Loesch added.

After playing Bethune-Cookman in the Westin Classic, Stetson will face its Volusia County rival twice more in a home-and-home series, first on Sept. 17 in DeLand and then a week later on Sept. 24 in Daytona Beach. The Hatters will also visit Florida Atlantic in a non-conference match on Oct. 1.

The Atlantic Sun Conference schedule will once again feature a double round-robin format as the Hatters will play all nine league opponents once at home and once on the road. The home matches include North Florida (Sept. 20), Jacksonville (Sept. 21), Mercer (Sept. 27), Kennesaw State (Sept. 28), Florida Gulf Coast (Oct. 4), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 18), Lipscomb (Oct. 19), USC Upstate (Nov. 1) and ETSU (Nov. 2).

“We have three consecutive home weekends to begin A-Sun play, which is a great opportunity to build some momentum in the conference,” Loesch said.

Following the regular season, the top six teams in the league will compete for the Atlantic Sun Championship and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
