Women's Soccer Hosts Embry-Riddle and Troy to Open 2013

The Stetson women’s soccer team begins a three-match home-stand to open the 2013 season this weekend. The Hatters host cross-county foe Embry-Riddle Friday night at 7:00 p.m., and then welcome Troy to the Athletic Training Center on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Fan can keep up with this weekend’s games in a number of ways. The contests will be live streamed on HatterVision, there will be Live Stats available, and the @StetsonWSoccer Twitter feed will send out live updates from the field.

General Admission tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. All home soccer matches are free to Stetson students, faculty, and staff with a Stetson University ID. For more information call (386) 738-HATS.

Head Coach Manoj Khettry is in his first season at Stetson after seven seasons at the helm at St. Bonaventure.

Manoj Khettry led the Bonnies to five straight Atlantic 10 Conference Tournaments from 2008 to 2012.

Stetson went 2-0 in preseason action, defeating top ranked Division II Armstrong Atlantic 1-0 and winning 3-2 against St. Leo.

Senior Kait Jones scored the lone goal in the win over Armstrong Atlantic. Freshmen Ashni Deschenes (2) and Paige Law scored vs. St. Leo.

Senior Alyssa Welsh and sophomore Mara Keomanivane led the Hatters in scoring last year with three goals each.

Senior midfielder Amber Grose led Stetson with two assists in 2012.

Stetson was selected to finish ninth out of 10 teams in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Hatters are 7-1-0 all-time against Embry-Riddle since the series started in 1999. Last year Stetson won 2-1 in overtime.

Alyssa Welsh scored both goals for the Hatters against the Eagles in 2012.

Stetson is 5-2-1 in the all-time series against Troy, which began in 1998. Last year the Trojans won 1-0 in Alabama.
