Hatters Finish Eighth at Boise State

Eagle, Idaho – Stetson’s men’s golf team closed with a final round score of 293 on Tuesday in the final round of the BSU Dash Thomas Memorial Tournament at BanBury Golf Club.

The nine-over par final round left the Hatters (873) tied for eighth with Grand Canyon State in the final team standings for the tournament. Sacramento State (851), which led the tournament wire-to-wire, closed with a final round score of 285 for a 12-shot victory over second place Idaho (863).

Cal State Fullerton (865) and Seattle University (865) tied for third. Utah State (867) finished fifth, just seven shots in front of Stetson.

Utah State’s Tanner Highman posted a second consecutive round of 67 to rally for a one-shot victory over Mark Anguiano of CSF. Highman finished the tournament with an eight under par score of 205.

Stetson freshman Zach Stark followed his second round 66 with an even par 71 on Tuesday to earn his first collegiate top five finish. Stark was tied with four other players, including second round leader Ty Travis of Boise State, with a two-under par overall score of 211. Stark tied for fifth overall in the tournament with 13 birdies.

Another freshman for the Hatters, Dirk Kuehler, earned a top 20 finish, tying for 19th with a five-over par final score of 218. He finished with a 77 on Tuesday to drop out of contention for a top 10 finish after posting a 66 in the second round. Kuehler finished the tournament tied for sixth in par 5 scoring at six under par and he finished tied for second overall with 14 birdies in the tournament.

As a team, the Hatters were a combined 15 under par on the par 5 holes and finished third in the tournament with 49 birdies. Seattle led the way with 60 birdies over the three rounds of play.

Stetson sophomores Dustin Dingus (75-72-75=222) and David Torres (77-76-72=225) finished tied for 28th and tied for 40th respectively. Freshman Eliott Azoulay closed with a final round 75 to finish at 228, tied for 48th overall.

The Hatters will be in action again when they travel to Morgantown, NC, for the Donald Ross Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State University. That event is scheduled to be played October 13-15 at the Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club.
