Men's Tennis Begins Play at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomores Cahit Kapukiran and Egor Panyushkin advanced to the semifinals with singles victories as the Stetson men's tennis team competed in the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday.

Playing in the B2 bracket, Kapukiran was given a bye in round one.  He then defeated second seeded Jaya Billa of Wake Forest by a score of 7-5, 6-1. 

Panyushkin topped Danny Mack of UNC Greensboro 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2 in round one of the C1 bracket.  He went on to win 6-1, 6-2 over Alex Llames of Liberty in the quarterfinals.

Juniors Nathan Debut and Chester Espie, as well as senior Hans Adrian Riseng, won first round matches before falling in the quarterfinals.

Debut topped Jon Ho of Wake Forest 7-6(5), 6-0 before dropping his second round contest against Brett Clark of UNC.  Espie won 6-4, 6-3 against Alex Howard of Davidson, and then lost to Sam Bloom of Wake Forest.  Riseng, meanwhile, defeated Joel Cook of Furman 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.  He then fell to Egon Samaii of Liberty.
