KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Stetson men’s and women’s soccer teams received the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for their excellence in the classroom during the 2012-13 academic year.

A total of 862 programs (269 men, 593 women) were recognized for posting a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, but only 182 schools had both their men’s and women’s teams earn the accolades.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that both the Stetson men’s and women’s teams have received the honors from the NSCAA, continuing a strong tradition of success in the classroom from Stetson Soccer. It is the fifth straight time that the women’s program has been honored.

“Making it back to the A-Sun Tournament and receiving the NSCAA Team Academic Award are great accomplishments and should be achievements that as a program we strive for on a yearly basis,” Stetson women's soccer coach Manoj Khettry said. “I’m proud of the work our players put into their academic course work in the classroom and believe in their roles as student-athletes. Our goal now is to raise their cumulative team grade point average and strive for a higher place in the A-Sun standings and tournament.”

Seven out of the nine Atlantic Sun Conference schools with male and female soccer programs received the honors for both teams, and all 10 A-Sun women’s soccer teams were recognized by the NSCAA on Thursday.

“It’s always one of our goals to strive for excellence in the classroom,” Stetson men’s soccer coach T. Logan Fleck said. “It’s very gratifying for this team’s efforts to be recognized year after year with this Team Academic honor from the NSCAA.”
