The Stetson men’s basketball team returns to the court after a nine-day layoff to host Florida Atlantic Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first of four straight games at the Edmunds Center.
Having played only two of their first 11 games in the comforts of their home venue, the Hatters (1-10) have had relative success in DeLand this season. Stetson put forth its best offensive output of 2013-14 in a home-opening 86-80 loss to Davidson on Nov. 30, and then picked up its first win with a 56-52 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 3.
Senior Willie Green, the Hatters’ leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, is atop the Atlantic Sun Conference in scoring average at home this season. With a 30-point outing against Davidson and a team high 18 against B-CU, Green leads the league with a 24.0 points per game average at home in 2013-14.
Florida Atlantic comes into Tuesday night’s contest with an overall record of 3-8 after dropping close games at DePaul and Maryland last week. The Owls won their opener over Ave Maria before losing six straight. FAU rebounded with back-to-back home victories over UCF and Jacksonville early in December.
Senior Pablo Bertone leads the Owls with 20.1 points per game, while Jackson Trapp has added 10.4 points per contest. Justin Raffington and Dragan Sekelja are chipping in with 7.9 points and over seven rebounds per game each.
Stetson holds a slight 17-15 advantage in the all-time series against FAU, and the two teams split last season’s series. The Owls won 88-78 in DeLand, while the Hatters earned a 69-68 victory in Boca Raton on a buzzer-beater.
Tuesday night’s game can be watched live on HatterVision, or listened to on WSBB AM 1230, AM 1490, and online at MyAM1230.com with Robbie Aaron on the call. Live Stats, the @StetsonMBB Twitter feed and Hat-Alerts are also available for in-game updates.
