Looking to extend two long winning streaks, the Stetson women's basketball team opens a two-game Atlantic Sun Conference home stand Thursday night vs. Kennesaw State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Edmunds Center.
Winners of 10 straight games overall and 11 games in a row at home, the Hatters (18-5, 10-1) will be playing in front of their home fans for the first time since Jan. 25. Stetson recently completed a 4-0 road swing with victories at Northern Kentucky, Lipscomb, USC Upstate, and ETSU to move into a tie for first place in the A-Sun standings.
The lengthy road swing didn't slow down the Hatters' offense as Stetson scored 79 points or better all four games to raise its season scoring average to 79.8. That ranks as the 23rd-best offensive output in the NCAA, while the Hatters' .460 field goal percentage ranks as the 16th-highest shooting mark in the country.
The Owls (6-16, 4-7), meanwhile, are coming off a 53-39 win over Northern Kentucky in game where KSU held NKU to just six points in the first half. Stetson has won 10 straight head-to-head meetings vs. the Owls including a 98-75 win in Kennesaw on Jan. 18.
Several Hatters will be approaching statistical milestones Thursday night. Sasha Sims is eight points shy of reaching the 1500-point plateau, Cherisse Burris is four rebounds shy of 500, and head coach Lynn Bria needs one victory for 100 at Stetson.
The Hatters will also host Mercer at 1 p.m. Saturday in their annual Play4Kay cancer awareness game. A sweep this weekend would allow Stetson to clinch home court advantage for the Atlantic Sun tournament quarterfinals.
Tickets start at $5 and can be purchased online at GoHatters.com/tix or at the Edmunds Center box office. Stetson students, faculty, and staff are free with a valid ID.
Both games this weekend will be available on HatterVision and broadcast on WSBB myam1230.com. Live stats, the Stetson women's basketball twitter feed, and Hat-Alerts will provide in-game updates as well.
