Orange Park, Fla. – The Stetson women’s golf team failed to make any ground on Saturday in the second round of the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational.
The Hatters held to their 12th place position in the 16-team field by posting a 308 on a gusty day at Eagle Landing Golf Club. Consistent wind in the 10-15 mile per hour range included gusts of 20 miles per hour and more.
The winds didn’t seem to bother Georgia State, which posted a 297 to take a three-shot lead over first round leader Delaware. Elon is in third place one shot further back while Southern Illinois and Samford are tied for fourth, seven shots off the lead.
SIU’s Cassie Rushing used a two-under par round of 70 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead over Sunna Vidisdottir of Elon and Tiffany Chan of Daytona State.
Stetson senior Jenna Hoecker had the best round of the day for Stetson, posting a two-over par round of 74 to move into a tie for 28th place overall. Hoecker had an up-and-down round with five birdies, six pars and seven bogeys.
Senior Ryan Ashburn had a calmer round, but managed just one birdie on the way to a 74. She is tied with Hoecker for 28th overall in the tournament.
Senior Sammi Smith played her first nine holes at even par with nine straight pars, but had four bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine to go with a pair of birdies. Her four-over par 76 leaves her tied for 39th entering the final round on Sunday.
The Hatters will start play in the final round on Sunday on the back nine, playing with Wofford and James Madison. Play will begin with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
