DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University sand volleyball team made it 10 in-a-row, with victories over FGCU and Jacksonville, Saturday at the sand courts in DeLand. For the second straight day, the Hatters swept Florida Gulf Coast 5-0, and then edged Jacksonville 3-2, to begin conference play, a perfect 4-0.
The first match of the day pitted the Eagles against the Hatters who took a 2-0 lead with victories from the pairings of Maren Rygh/Jordann Dierickx at the No. 4 seed (21-16, 22-20) and Kristin Lind/Tiffany Creamer at No. 5 (21-17, 21-15).
In the afternoon match vs. Jacksonville, Stetson’s No. 4 and 5 seeds held the home sand, with Maren Rygh/Jordann Dierickx winning 21-19, 21-16 and Kristin Lind/Tiffany Creamer walking away with 24-22, 21-16 victories.
The Dolphins tied things up after victories at No. 2 and 1, leaving it up to Rachael Farrell and Julie Bassett to keep the win streak alive. The pair did just that, cruising to a straight set victory 21-14, 21-18 over JU’s Emily Laskelle and Rachel Miller.
Stetson (10-0, 4-0) completed the weekend in perfect fashion, taking 10 of 10 matches played with FGCU and then six of 10 from Jacksonville.
The Hatters next take their home sand against North Florida in a doubleheader, Tuesday, Mar. 25. The first match is set to get underway at 2 p.m., with the second to take place at 4 p.m. in DeLand.
