Football Continues to Move Forward on Day Sixteen

The Stetson University football program has hit a crucial point of their preseason camp. With more two weeks of preparation behind them, and another week and a half to go before the start of the 2016 regular season, the Stetson football players are getting antsy with anticipation for game action.

With temperatures slightly cooler than they have been and a large amount of cloud coverage early on providing relief from the sun, the Hatters practiced in full pads during the first half of practice, before using upper pads only during the second half.

Though the practices have gained in intensity throughout the camp, the players have reached the point where they will start to have to dig deeper and work hard to maintain focus on the goal as the 10 days between now and the season opener may seem like an eternity to some.

“We're at the point now where the guys are tired of hitting each other and they want to hit someone else now,” said head coach Roger Hughes. “The first game seems a long ways away because it's not this weekend and so that's where your discipline and your focus on what you're doing is crucial.”

Stetson continued preparing for its season by working on individual position drills, game specific scenarios and play calling.

The Hatters will have a day off from practice on Thursday before returning for Friday's session at 4 p.m.

The 2016 Stetson football team will open with three consecutive home games in September at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. Online ticket sales for new season tickets and mini plans are available as are single-game tickets.
