Stetson Women's Golf Signs National Top 20 Recruit

DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson Head Women's Golf Coach Floyd Kerr is proud to announce the signing of Alexandria “Alex” Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) to a National Letter of Intent.  Buelow, the nation's 20th-ranked junior player according to the prestigious GolfStat rankings, will come to Stetson in fall 2009 as the most decorated recruit in program history.

Buelow first appeared on the national junior golf scene in 2002 when the then 11-year old qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship, the youngest player to do so since 1954.  She won back to back Florida state high school titles in 2006 and 2007 playing for Martin County High School in Stuart, Fla. along with three district titles and two regional individual championships.

She is a three-time Florida Junior Masters champion and has won the prestigious Doral Junior in Miami, Fla.  This past summer, Buelow copped a fourth place finish out of 130 of the top junior women's players in the world at the Optimist International and placed eighth out of 76 golfers at the PGA Junior Girls National Championship.

Buelow chose Stetson for its academic reputation, small campus environment, the top-notch facilities at Victoria Hills Country Club and the challenge to make Stetson Women's Golf a championship contender in NCAA competition.

The daughter of Mark and Jackie Buelow intends to major in Sports Management at Stetson University.  She is a member of the MCHS chapter of the National Honor Society, has been vice president of Sigma Phi (community service), was inducted into the United States Achievement Academy and has volunteered in many community projects such as the American Heart Association, Adopt a Family and Hibiscus House For Children, canned food drives and local beach cleanup.

“Last year we signed the #52 ranked incoming freshman in Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and this year we continue to build our program by signing Alex who is now the 20th-ranked player in the country for 2009,” Coach Kerr remarked.  “In recruiting Alex, it has become obvious that she has great talent as a golfer and should continue to help the women's golf team as we move our program forward.  Alex has tremendous golf skills, is the ultimate team player and is a person of great character who will make a huge contribution to our athletic program as well as to the Stetson academic community.”
