Jones and Rickles Earn Freshman All-America Status

DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson baseball is proud to announce that Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla) have been named to the 2009 TPX Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team. The Louisville Slugger All-America Teams are selected each season by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in Tucson, Arizona.

Jones earned the honor as a second baseman for the Hatters. He had an incredible freshman season at the plate finishing second on the team and 14th in the Atlantic Sun Conference in batting at .363. He was a model of consistency. After a 6-for-8 start in the first two games he never dipped below .340 the entire season. He was also second on the team in hits (82) and doubles (12), and fourth in home runs (7) and RBI (44).

As Stetson's starting catcher and occasional outfielder, Rickles played in all 57 games for the Hatters. Defensively he displayed a strong throwing arm and a quick release. He finished second in the A-Sun in runners caught stealing with 19. Offensively he hit .296 with 68 hits and tied with Jones for the third spot on the team with 12 doubles. He also had five home runs one triple and 40 RBI in his rookie campaign.

Both Jones and Rickles were named to the A-Sun All-Freshman team prior to the conference tournament.
