South Atlantic League Names Justin Bass Offensive POW

DeLand, Fla. ? Baseball standout Justin Bass, who completed his Stetson career just last year, is already making his mark in the minor leagues. Bass was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the South Atlantic League for the week ending May 31, 2009. He was perfect at the plate twice during the week, going 4-for-4 on May 26 and 3-for-3 on May 29. As part of his 4-for-4 effort, the 23-year-old delivered a double and two home runs. His five long balls on the week more than doubled his season total to nine, good for third in the league.

Bass plays at the single A level for the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Although he was not designated as a starter when the season began, he was eventually given the nod and has made the best of his opportunity. He has played in 35 of 49 games and is currently tied for the team lead in batting average at .313 and home runs with nine.

Bass finished his career at Stetson with the highest batting average in school history at .383. Following the 2008 season he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 19th round (568th overall).
