Saint Sing Set to Take Over Stetson Crew Program

DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson athletics has announced that Susan Saint Sing has been hired to take over the Stetson Rowing program beginning June 15, 2009. She will replace Chris Thomas who completed his MBA at Stetson and is leaving to join his family's restaurant business.

 

Saint Sing will be an outstanding addition to the Hatters' coaching staff. She brings tremendous experience and knowledge to the crew program. She was a member of the 1993 US National Rowing Team, has a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Penn State University, and has sailed over 10,000 blue water miles.

 

"I look forward to hopefully continuing the ongoing excellence of Stetson Crew”, said Saint Sing.  “The crew here at Stetson has had some remarkable achievements and has a great tradition I am grateful to be a part of its future."

 

Saint Sing's was a volunteer assistant with Stetson last season. Prior to that she was the volunteer rowing coach at the United States Naval Academy (2006-07), the head men's and women's crew coach at Penn State (2001-03), and the head men's and women's crew coach at Xavier (1986-92).

 

During her career she has also worked as the manager for the United States National Rowing Team for the World Rowing Championships in 1993, the U.S. Rowing National Development Camp Manager in 1991, and the Program Director for the U.S. National Rowing Center in Cincinnati from 1987-89.

 

Saint Sing is the author of eight books including The Wonder Crew:  The Untold Story of A Coach Navy Rowing and Olympic Immortality.  This is a book on the longest winning streak in Olympic history-- rowing in the 1920 Olympic Games.  She has another book coming out this March on Harvard Rowing entitled, The Eight:  One Season in the Tradition of Harvard Crew
