The Stetson University volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the UniWyo Invitational Saturday, falling 3-2 to Montana State in a five-set thriller and 3-1 to Idaho to cap the weekend.
Senior Kaley Melville was named to the all-tournament team after posting 62 kills and 55 digs over the four matches.
Stetson (1-3) held a 2-1 lead in the match vs. Montana State, but the Bobcats came back to win set four 25-19 and set five 15-13.
"We had some high points and some not-so-high points today," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "In the first match we played really well in a couple of the sets. The girls fought hard and we got to five, and we lost a close one. It was a tough loss, but the girls did a lot of good things."
Melville led the Hatters with 16 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the weekend. Ellen Hawks and Tiffany Creamer added 12 kills apiece. Kayla Weller tallied 54 assists for the second straight day and Michelle Kastner added 19 digs.
Stetson's lone victory against Idaho came in set two (25-22), but the Vandals took the final two frames by identical 25-17 scores.
Madison Akins led the Hatters with 10 kills and four blocks.
"The second match we faced a tough team that put a lot of pressure on us, but the girls responded and won a set, and we played well at times," Loesch said. "It was a learning experience, but overall I am really glad that we came out here, played some new teams, some tough teams, and it is going to help us get better for next week and beyond."
Stetson will host Savannah State, Bethune-Cookman, and Providence next weekend in the UniWyo Invitational.
