POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Stetson lacrosse team dropped its 11th straight game to start the season falling to Marist on the road by a score of 11-1 on Friday. Sophomore Maylis Broderick scored the lone goal for the Hatters.
The Red Foxes scored the first 11 goals of the game, which included five first half scores that gave Marist a 5-0 lead at the break. Stetson got into the scoring column when Broderick put one in the back of the net with 5:45 to play in the game.
Marist outshot Stetson 37-10, picked up 30 ground balls to the Hatters’ 18, and finished with 11 draw controls while Stetson recorded three. Stetson was just 9-of-23 on clear attempts and turned the ball over 23 times.
Jamie Romano led the Red Foxes with four goals, while Kara McHugh and Emily Leonard chipped in with two each. McHugh and Abigail Witczak led the way with four ground balls while Romano had a game high six draw controls.
Sophomore Caili Guilday led the Hatters with six ground balls and stopped 13 of Marist’s shots while playing all 60 minutes in goal. Freshman Lindsay Summers led Stetson with two draw controls in the defeat.
Stetson returns home on Wednesday to host no. 4 Florida at the Athletic Training Center. The Hatters and the Gators are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in DeLand.
