Gainesville, Fla. -- The No. 5 national seed Florida Gators scored in every inning but the fourth en route to a 14-0 victory over Stetson in the winner's bracket of the NCAA Gainesville Regional Saturday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Hatters (39-13) will look to avoid elimination at 6 p.m. tonight against the winner of the UCF-Florida A&M game at 3:30.
The Gators (47-11) had 17 hits in the game including three by Stephanie Tofft. The Hatters fell behind early as Florida scored six runs in the first three innings.
The usually sure-handed Hatters committed three errors defensively and allowed a couple other catchable balls to fall safely.
"It was frustrating (to fall behind) because we allowed a lot of it ourselves," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said. "(We had) errors, misjudged balls and allowed the sun to be a factor. At the same time, you have to give UF credit. They hit the ball well, they played good defense, and they got solid pitching. They put together a good game and we didn't."
Stetson starter Meredith Owen (27-8) pitched the first 2.2 innings, while Courtney Brandt worked 3.1 innings of relief.
Chrissy Morello collected two hits for Stetson, giving her a team-high four hits for the regional through the first two games.
Demi Meza and Brittany Hawn also singled for Stetson.
Lauren Haeger and Kelsey Stewart drove in four runs apiece to lead the Gators.
Stetson has not played an elimination game yet this season but will have to win three in a row to win the regional.
"They never cease to amaze me," Griffin said about his team. "They have come from behind all year, and pulled out some great ball games. They have a lot of heart and I am sure they will be back giving it their all."
