Russini, Pitts Selected to All-Star Game

A pair of Stetson baseball players will be making an appearance in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League All-Star game on Wednesday night.

Rising juniors Garrett Russini and Kyle Pitts will compete on opposing teams in the CRCBL All-Star Game, which will be played at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.

Russini, a catcher who is playing for the Youse’s Orioles this summer, is hitting .306 in 20 games. Pitts, an infielder who is playing for the Southern Maryland Nationals, is hitting .220 in 22 games. Stetson teammate Darby McCormick is also a member of the Southern Maryland Nationals and is hitting .222 in 22 games this summer.

While that trio is enjoying a summer in Maryland, Stetson baseball players are scattered all over the country this summer. Here is a look at where the Hatters are playing and how they are doing this summer.

Tanner Blackman: Playing for the DeLand Suns, Blackman is hitting .200 in 24 games with 12 stolen bases.

Tyler Bocock: Playing alongside Mazeika in Waynesboro, Bocock is hitting .333 in 34 games with a home run and 18 RBI, earning a trip to the All-Star game in the Valley League last week.

Kevin Fagan: Playing for the Palm Beach Xtreme of the South Florida Collegiate League, Fagan is hitting a team-leading .282 with three doubles, a triple and two home runs to go with14 RBI and 18 stolen bases. He has been used only as a designated hitter.

Patrick Mazeika: Playing for the Waynesboro Generals in the Valley Baseball League, Mazeika was named league Player of the Week in July 8 after batting .700 in four games with two doubles, a triple and seven runs scored. In 14 games Mazeika is hitting .400 with five doubles, two triples and 12 RBI.

Jake Pequignot: Playing for the DeLand Suns in the Florida Collegiate League, Pequinot is hitting .205 in 17 games with a home run and four RBI.

Ben Rakus: Has shined this summer as a member of the Holyoke Blue Sox in the New England Collegiate League. Rakus has a 4-2 overall record in 12 games, all in relief, and has a 1.05 ERA and three saves. He has recorded 17 strikeouts in 17 innings of work.

Frankie Romano: Playing for the DeLand Suns, Romano has appeared on the mound in two games, posting a 2.45 ERA.

Adam Schaly: Playing for the Chillicothe Paints in the Prospect League, Schaly appeared in just three games before shutting down for the summer. In his three starts he was 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

K'shawn Smith: Playing for the Utica Brewers in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, Smith is hitting .302 this summer in 28 games. He has 10 doubles, a home run and 14 RBI with 13 stolen bases.

Josh Thorne: Also playing in the Valley League for Waynesboro, Thorne has appeared on the mound in 12 games, all in relief, and has a 2-0 record with a 2.45 ERA and two saves, earning a trip to the All-Star game, where he took the loss.

Tyler Warmoth: Playing for the DeLand Suns, Warmoth has appeared in four games in relief and has a 1-0 record with a 1.22 ERA and one save.

Kyle Zech: Playing for the South Hampton Breakers of the Hamptons Collegiate League, Zech earned an All-Star selection by leading the team with a .343 average through 29 games. He has two doubles, a triple, a home run and 13 RBI to go with 12 stolen bases.
