Stetson University senior Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn/Watertown-Mayer HS) has been named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, while teammate Tiffany Creamer (Newnan, Ga./Landmark Christian HS) has been named the league’s Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Melville and Creamer, both outside hitters, helped lead Stetson to a perfect 3-0 week including a pair of five set victories over UNF and Jacksonville to open A-Sun play this past weekend. It marked Stetson’s first 2-0 start in the conference since 2007.

Melville recorded a Stetson rally-scoring era single-match record 28 kills in Stetson's come-from-behind win over UNF on Friday. She recorded nine kills in the first set alone, and picked up 13 digs for her fifth double-double performance of the season. Melville led the team again with 17 kills in the team’s victory over Jacksonville on Saturday. She added eight digs, including the 1000th of her career, to become just the fifth player in school history to record 1000 kills and 1000 digs.

For the week Melville averaged 4.23 kills and 1.92 digs per set, and posted a .344 attack pct.

Creamer recorded a season-high 19 kills in Stetson's win over UNF on Friday. She notched five kills including the game-winner and hit .625 (5-0-8) in the decisive fifth set. On Saturday, Creamer registered 14 kills and a pair of blocks in Stetson's 3-2 win over Jacksonville. She again had a solid fifth set, recording three kills after the changeover.

Creamer averaged 3.08 kills-per-set for the week with a .250 attack pct.

It is the first Player of the Week award for Melville and Creamer, and the second and third times a Hatter has been selected this season.  Ellen Hawks was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9.

At 10-5, the Hatters are off to their best start since 1996. Stetson will visit Bethune-Cookman (1-12) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Daytona Beach.  Live stats will be available via the Bethune-Cookman website, and live video can be purchased through the B-CU CatEye Network.
